Available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Google’s Android mobile OS, and online on its official website, the Cryptnos tool can be used to generate passwords. The tool will generate pseudo-random passwords based on your input (site name and passphrase) and based on the rules you specify (hash algorithm, length restriction). In little time and with minimal effort you will come up with a very strong, very difficult to break password.

The Cryptnos installation file for Windows is less than 1MB in size; such a lightweight download will be done in a blink. Getting the application up and running on your Windows-powered machine is a simple matter of running the aforementioned executable and clicking through a simple setup wizard. If you don’t want to install the application on your PC, you can try it out online, on its official website. Or you could install the Android version on your smartphone. The choice is up to you.

Getting back to the Windows edition, it features a very user-friendly interface. To help you figure out what to do, the developer came up with these handy tooltips – hover your mouse over the various buttons and a tooltip will show up and tell you what’s what. Once you familiarize yourself with the interface, you can disable these tooltips by unchecking the “Show tooltips help” option from the bottom left hand corner.

There are two things you must give Cryptnos so it can give you a password in return: a site name and a passphrase. The application will take the site name, combine it with the passphrase you provide, apply the selected rules, and present you with a password – a strong password that uses lower and uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Use this password to protect an account and the bad guys will not be able to break it.

Don’t worry about forgetting the password, worry only about remembering the site name and passphrase. Say the site name is www.findmysoft.com and the passphrase is GeorgeNorman. Cryptnos will generate the password 4CvTZ+GPt5UnImTHriZF7TFgi1I=, which isn’t exactly easy to remember. Every time you combine the site name www.findmysoft.com and the passphrase GeorgeNorman, the application will generate the 4CvTZ+GPt5UnImTHriZF7TFgi1I= password. You don’t have to worry about remembering the password, just remember the site name passphrase combination.

Easily and rapidly generate very strong passwords with the open source application Cryptnos.

Pros

Cryptnos is available for Windows, Android, and online (at the time of writing this, a Java version is in the works). There are handy tooltips to help you get started; you can disable them when they get annoying. Cryptnos generates strong passwords based on your input. The application is open source.

Cons

None that I could think of.
